Description of the \UTILS directory on the SimTunes CD... The \UTILS directory contains files and information that we found very helpful in the making and testing of SimTunes. Below is a brief description of everything in the \UTILS directory. This is by no means a complete instruction manual for any file in this directory. If you use anything in here, we strongly suggest you read any README files and/or instruction manuals for the appropriate item (each of which has been included when available). Maxis Technical Support will not be held responsible for any problems that arise from the misuse or incorrect use of any of these files. We provide these files on the CD merely as additional utilities in case you have a problem with the game and need to contact Maxis for further assistance. We prefer that you only use anything in this directory with the assistance of a Maxis techical support representative to ensure that no further problems are caused. If you choose to ignore these guidelines, all bets are off. Do not contact Maxis until you have read all the directions in this file, the instruction manual that came with your video card, sound card, computer and this Maxis Software Toy. \SVGA31 This is a set of generic Windows 3.1 video drivers. If you're video card supports these drivers and you're having problems that may be related to the version of video driver you're using, you might try these. WARNING! Do not use these drivers if you're running Windows 95. They are for Windows 3.1 *only*. Also, do not use these drivers if you're not absolutely sure that they are compatable with your video card. You will have difficulty getting Windows to work if you install the wrong video card driver. INFO.EXE This is a Maxis program that will check your system and give you lots of helpful information about what types of hardware you're using, how much memory you have, and lots of other information that is very helpful in determining problems you may be experiencing. We recommend running this program and printing a copy of the information it displays before contacting Maxis Technical Support. This will help the Technical Support Department solve your problem much faster. UNIVBE.EXE This is UniVBE/Lite, a DOS VESA driver that also will tell you what chipset your video card uses. This is also very helpful information to have when solving problems. We also recommend running this program and printing out it's results before contacting Maxis Technical Support. UNIVBE.TXT This is the instruction manual for UniVBE/Lite. VBETEST.EXE This is a VESA test utility that is distributed with certain versions of UniVBE. It will do a bit of "stress testing" on your video card's performance. SBW95UP.EXE This is a compressed set of updated drivers for the Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16, 32 and AWE32 sound cards for Windows 95. These files are only meant for use on actual Creative Labs cards from the Sound Blaster family. Do not use these files on any "Sound Blaster compatable" or "Sound Blaster clone" cards that weren't made by Creative Labs as they could cause difficulty in using your sound card. S16DW3UP.EXE This is a compressed set of updated drivers for the Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16, 32 and AWE32 sound cards for DOS and Windows 3.1x. These files are only meant for use on actual Cretive Labs cards from the Sound Blaster family. Do not use these files on any "Sound Blaster compatable" or "Sound Blaster clone" cards that weren't made by Creative Labs as they could cause difficulty in using your sound card. \ATPRO95 This directory contains Windows 95 drivers for the Audio Trix Pro sound card that are compatable with DirectX. We do not recommend installing these drivers unless you are completely confident in the entire process. Please do not use these drivers (or anything else in this directory preferably) without the assistance of a Maxis Technical Support Representative.
